​Checkerboard Borders: Experimental Film of the Global South

Checkerboard Borders, online film screening, and event series, 2021

The screening foregrounded contemporary experimental and avant-garde films from Iran, Mexico, China, Taiwan, and Palestine that stalk the themes of memory, longing, home-coming, and displacement. The films have a unique visual and narrative approach and explore performance and performativity for, in collaboration with, or in spite of the camera.

The screening is a collaboration with Sarah Lasley and was organized in conjunction with a panel with filmmakers and a lecture titled “Screening Palestine” by Dr. Nadia Yaqub.
